Feminism is the fight for the equality of both genders. It is the belief that men and women both deserve the same respect and honor in society. According to the Statista research department which conducted a survey in the UK in 2015, the main problem that plagues feminism is that people especially youngsters don’t understand its true meaning.

In recent days, feminism has been made a mockery due to the fact that women don’t understand what they are actually saying by demanding a feminist society. Women have reduced feminism to just screaming on roads, demanding things which frankly reduces their dignity and successfully establishes them as a bunch of mad people. I mean, gender equality won’t be achieved by acting like kids. It is well known and established that women have to work twice as hard as men to get half the recognition men to get. This notion is now being discouraged but in patriarchal countries, women are still mostly treated as socially inferior people. According to a survey conducted among Generation Z in South Korea in 2019, a little over one-third of the respondents stated that they supported the Escape the Corset movement. Support among women was over 50 percent, in contrast to the relatively lower levels of support among men.

In 2018, over 16 women out of every 100 thousand across India experienced domestic abuse in some form. Similar is the case in other South Asia countries. Women who are most abused are illiterate so they don’t know their rights and don’t recognize that what is being done to them is completely wrong. Men in these areas have a twisted idea of masculinity and nobody corrects them. Domestic abuse is normalized when it is obviously so very wrong. Women are imperative for the success of men and there is no difference between the intelligence level of both genders. Both are equally capable to lead a business or basically do anything. A major factor contributing to the low respect of women compared to men is that women themselves feel that whatever is being done to them is right. They feel as if they have no choice but to bear such abuse due to what society has fed them.

There are millions of people who don’t support feminism and many of them include women. There are multiple reasons contributing to this, the first being that people think women and men cant be equal due to their different physiques. Equality doesn’t mean equality in strength, it means equality in opportunities. Moreover, we all have an unconscious gender bias among us, preventing us from treating men and women as equals. Due to the common belief that men are the breadwinners of the family and women have to stay at home to take care of their children, women who work are treated differently than men. I mean, let’s be honest how many among you have been ridiculed and shamed at work just for the simple fact of being a woman. If I may be as blunt as to say, this is simply ridiculous.

In the end, we must all honor the beliefs and values that feel right to us. Before I end this article I would like to ask you all a simple question and implore you to at least think about what I have written. If you believe in equality for all, are you able to take a brave stand for it in a way that feels right to you, in your own sphere, and in your own circle of influence?
